Starlab ExpertLink

Starlab ExpertLink is a program of The Ohio State University George Washington Carver Science Park that links space experts to K-12 classrooms and STEM camps working on a Starlab-related design challenge. Experts serve on panels that remotely link to classrooms several times over the period of the challenge. For students, these sessions help them understand the space station/low-Earth orbit context of the design challenge and are a venue to get questions answered and feedback on design ideas while providing exposure to STEM careers.

2024-25 Starlab ExpertLink Results

During 2024-25, Starlab ExpertLink actively collaborated with the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) in its statewide design challenge. The OSU Starlab – George Washington Carver Science Park co-developed the challenge statement with OSLN. Then, during the 3 month challenge period, a custom panel of space experts remotely connected with classrooms to guide and encourage students and give them feedback on their designs. Over 100 schools across the state of Ohio and over 34,000 students participated in the challenge that culminated in a Showcase and Awards event at Battelle in Columbus on March 3, 2025 for the top 21 teams across the State. Expertlink panels were formed for 28 schools and over 70 remote sessions were conducted. Anonymous surveys of Experts and School Leads were conducted to learn from this program.
