A ground-based replica of a laboratory currently operating on the International Space Station (ISS) will eventually sit on a patch of land just north of the Ohio State University airport.

The European Space Agency has signed an agreement with Airbus and Voyager Space to study potential use of the companies’ Starlab commercial space station as a successor to the International Space Station.

Northrop Grumman will drop plans to develop its own commercial space station and instead assist a competing effort led by Voyager Space, the companies announced Oct. 4.

Voyager Space (Voyager), a global leader in space exploration, and Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus), the largest aeronautics and space company in Europe, today announced an agreement paving the way for a transatlantic joint venture to develop, build, and operate Starlab, a commercial space station planned to succeed the International Space Station. The US-led joint venture will bring together world-class leaders in the space domain, while further uniting American and European interests in space exploration.

Voyager Space has acquired engineering company ZIN Technologies to help build up expertise needed for its Starlab commercial space station.

The Voyager team received a warm welcome from local business leaders and representatives from the City of Columbus, State of Ohio, and The Ohio State University.

Voyager Space and Hilton are partnering to improve stays in space, from designing crew lodging to hospitality suites for Starlab Space Station.

The Ohio State University will serve as the lead partner for the first-ever science park devoted to space research. Voyager Space announced today it has selected a proposal from the university, the State of Ohio, JobsOhio, and One Columbus (“Team Ohio”) to host the terrestrial analog of the George Washington Carver Science Park (GWCSP) at Ohio State.
